Apple's all-in-one iMac desktops will receive a refresh this summer, gaining Intel's latest generation Haswell processors in June or July, according to one analyst.

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities expects thew iMacs with Haswell processors could arrive as soon as this month. In the third quarter of calendar 2013, he expects total shipments to reach 1.1 million units.

Apple's new MacBook Air lineup features Intel's latest Haswell ultra-low voltage processors, providing up to 9 hours of battery life with the 11-inch model, and 12 hours with the 13-inch version.

"True, all-day battery life," is how Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller portrayed the new MacBook Air models.


The new notebooks include 802.11ac for ultra-fast Wi-Fi connectivity. And the flash memory in the new MacBook Airs is said to be up to 45 percent faster than its predecessors.

The new prices on both models are $200 below Apple's standard retail pricing.

The next generation in Apple's MacBook line could see 50 percent greater battery life thanks to the processors expected to go into them, according to Intel.

In a media briefing ahead of the launch of its Haswell processor platform, Intel chief Rani Borkar said that the chipmaker had designed the line with notebooks and tablets in mind, according to PCWorld. That focus on mobile devices led to dramatic increases in battery life, with 50 percent longer operation in normal use and extending idle and standby battery life by up to 20 times.

Both the 21.5- and 27-inch version of the newly redesigned iMac now ship within one day from Apple's online stores in the U.S. and Canada.

All default configurations of the iMac are now advertised to ship within 24 hours. The improvement comes only three days after shipping times were shortened to one-to-three days.

Prior to this weekend, the 21.5-inch model was estimated to ship in two to three weeks, while the 27-inch model took up to a month to ship. Read More

With European sales of Apple's Mac Pro desktop set to stop on March 1 as new regulatory requirements become active, the computer has been made unavailbable in most of the company's online storefronts in the region.

In late January, Apple announced that it would be halting sales of the venerable Mac Pro on March 1 due to incompatibility with Amendment 1 of Regulation IEC 60950-1. According to Apple, the aging desktop platform is incompatible with the revised standard's requirement for protected fan blades. Read More
