Apple to Unveil Next Generation iPhone on September 10! Apple to Unveil Next Generation iPhone on September 10!(0)

Apple will unveil its next iPhone on September 10, reports AllThingsD, citing sources with knowledge of the event. Though the date of the announcement has been revealed, it is unclear whether the event will focus singularly on the upcoming iPhone 5S or if it will include Apple's rumored low-cost iPhone, possibly dubbed the iPhone "5C".

The iPhone 5C, which is aimed at emerging markets, shares quite a few similarities with the iPhone 5. Prototype photos and leaked parts have depicted a similar shape and size, though the iPhone 5C has rounded edges, a slightly thicker form factor, and a polycarbonate shell that is offered in a range of colors.

Google on Wednesday pushed out a minor update to its cloud-connected Google Drive iOS app, bringing hooks to the mobile versions of Safari and Chrome, as well as a new way to insert columns and rows into spreadsheets.

The latest iteration of Google Drive brings the iOS app up to version 1.5.0, though the point update is light on major changes, focusing more on user interface and accessibility tweaks.

Along with the usual bug fixes, the app brings two additions to the table with the ability to click on links within documents to open either Apple's Safari or Google's Chrome Web browser. The functionality is already available in other cloud syncing apps, but Google Drive never supported the feature until now.

Yahoo! Mail, while not the most popular email client on the App Store, got a small bump with a few welcome account management additions.

Most notably, Yahoo! Mail now supports multiple accounts, allowing those users who have more than one login to use the app as a one-stop-shop for their Yahoo-based emailing needs. The app will parse out accounts by inbox and there doesn't appear to be a limit to the number of accounts allowed.

Apple may move beyond designing silicon and actually build its own mobile chips, rather than relying entirely on third-party suppliers like Samsung or TSMC, a new rumor claims.

Apple's alleged buy-in to an unnamed chip fabrication plant is not a "trivial" investment, a report published Friday by SemiAccurate claims. The full report remains hidden behind a $1,000-per-year paywall, but tags accompanying the story may reveal Apple's rumored mystery partner: United Microelectronics Corporation.

UMC is a Taiwan-based chipmaker that has been around since 1980 and currently trades on the New York Stock Exchange. The company's name has been connected to Apple rumors in the past, but none at the scale of building CPUs for the iPhone maker.
